Dickies Arena is a 14,000 seat, spectacular multipurpose venue located adjacent to the Will Rogers Memorial Center campus in Fort Worth, Texas. The arena is owned by the City of Fort Worth and managed by the not-for-profit operating entity, Trail Drive Management Corp (TDMC).

Dickies Arena hosted 172 events in our last fiscal year and has been nominated for Arena of the year by both the Academy of Country Music and Pollstar Magazine in 2022 and 2023. The arena now ranks 2nd in gross ticket sales and attendance in Billboard Magazine’s Worldwide Boxscore Midyear chart among venues of similar size. Job Description :

The part-time Building Technician serves in a building maintenance position, performing work tasks of repairing, servicing, and maintaining various commercial building equipment and control systems. This would include, but is not limited to HVAC Systems, Lighting & Electrical Systems, F&B Equipment, Refrigeration Systems & Equipment, Plumbing Systems, Pumps, Fire Protection Systems, and all other types of building equipment and related systems. All repair and maintenance work performed by this position would be in compliance with all current Building codes, and all your work must be performed in a professional manner with technical competence. The successful candidate must be willing to work a flexible work schedule. This would include being able to work evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as determined by Arena events and scheduled by the Chief and Assistant Chief Engineer. This position would work in a multi-purpose Arena and adjacent Parking facilities, providing a safe, well-maintained building environment for clients, guests, and arena staff. In-person and predictable attendance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum high school graduate or GED required.
  • A trade school graduate with specialized training in a building related field, which would include Refrigeration, HVAC, Electrical or equivalent work experience.
  • Must have 3+ years of experience in commercial facility maintenance.
  • 2+ years’ experience maintaining and operating large scale chilled water systems.
  • 2+ years’ experience operating a Johnson Controls building automation system or equivalent.
  • Other engineering or maintenance certifications are desirable, i.e., Refrigeration, HVAC, Electrical or Plumbing
  • Experience and/or training in the public assembly facility management industry preferred.
  • Must be knowledgeable with all applicable laws, codes, ordinances, safety precautions, and emergency procedures related to facility management.
  • Must have a state of Texas motor vehicle license.
  • Keyboarding skills and computer proficiency with software knowledge including MS Office
  • Experience operating a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) preferred.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment and ensure deadlines are achieved.
  • Ability to be exposed to adverse weather conditions when required to work outside and/ or fluctuating temperatures.

Essential Duties (Include, but are not limited to the following):

  • The primary duty of the Building Technician II is to maintain, repair, replace and/or upgrade various building equipment and systems throughout the Arena and adjacent parking facilities. This is to ensure the smooth daily operation of the Arena and the satisfaction of our client/guests attending all Arena events under the direction of the Assistant Chief Engineer.
  • Must have verifiable experience in the operation, repairing and preventative maintenance of various commercial HVAC equipment that includes, water cooled chillers, cooling towers, large boiler systems, HVAC water pumps, constant and variable volume air handlers, FCU’s, ATU’s, BCU’s, RTU’s, VAV’s, VFD’s, Heat Pumps, Split Systems, Ductless Systems and other associated HVAC equipment.
  • Must have general building maintenance skills and/or mechanical abilities that can perform repairs and maintenance requests throughout all buildings and property on plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, interior & exterior building lighting systems, doors and door hardware, arena bowl seating systems (fixed & telescopic) and other various building related system and equipment.
  • Must be willing and able to work on building equipment in confined spaces and in “high” areas of the buildings utilizing High Lift equipment, scaffolding, swing stages, ladders, etc., using the appropriate fall protection gear. These high areas could include, but are not limited to roof areas, ceilings up to 65’ high and cat walks suspended 150’ from the arena floor.
  • Experience in maintenance skills and/or mechanical abilities that can perform general repairs and maintenance requests on Arena and Parking vehicles, including Utility vehicles is preferred.
  • Assist with the required monthly, quarterly, and annual testing of building systems, which include, but is not limited to emergency backup generators, exterior water fountain equipment and fire protection systems. This would include fire alarm systems, fire pumps, fire extinguishers and fire sprinkler systems.
  • Must be willing to work in outdoor elements, during all months of the year, on building related items, including but not limited to, exterior lighting & electrical repairs, streetlight poles, street bollard repairs, along with snow & ice removal as required.
  • Assist in properly maintaining all Engineering maintenance equipment and tools in a professional manner, and making sure all work areas are kept clean and organized, to promote a safe working environment.
  • Assist with maintaining inventory control of all the Engineering department equipment, tools, repair parts and supplies.
  • Abide by and follow OSHA, NFPA and other safety codes as well as, comply and adhere to hazardous materials standards and codes with the goal of ensuring a consistently safe working environment while working on property.
  • Assist in the setup and reconfiguration of the Arena Bowl seating systems during Arena seating conversions as required. This would include the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo setup and strike, which also includes the setup & strike of the South Chairman’s Rodeo Deck Structure.
  • Able to lift a minimum of 75lbs of supplies, materials, equipment, etc.., without assistance, using proper lifting techniques.
  • This position must be willing and able to work a flexible work week schedule, a minimum of 40 per week, which would include evenings, weekends and holidays as determined by the Arena events and scheduled by the Chief and Assistant Chief Engineer

Physical demands:

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee will frequently operate a computer and other office devices such as calculators, telephones, copy machines and printers. Employee will constantly move about inside and outside various areas of the facility before/during/after events to interact with internal/external clients and supervise the work of employees during events. Employee must constantly communicate via telephone, radios, email and in-person with others and exchange accurate information. Employee may occasionally be required due to business demands and event operations to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. As business, maintenance, operations, or emergency situations require, employee may sporadically assist in lifting/moving 100 lbs. or more.

Work environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to work in outside weather conditions; however, the duties of this position are performed primarily indoors. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, with the exception of event days, where the sound levels may be higher than moderate. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
